Meaning of the name

Shoshana is Hebrew for “rose”, a reference in Scripture to Jesus Christ (Solomon’s Song 2:1) who gives abundant life in lonely places (Isaiah 35:1).

Institute literally means something that is instituted or organised for the promotion of a cause.

Scripture refers to the Christian’s Holy Bible and is the cause of this ministry for it contains the teaching of Jesus Christ as the source of abundant life.

What inspired the creation of Shoshana Institute?

When Luke penned his Gospel, his desire was to provide an orderly account of Christ’s story. The story had already been propagated. Many things about Christ were already in circulation. Luke’s motivation was to provide certainty to what was said about our Lord. He wanted to encourage the faith that had already been taught by providing a systematic account of Christ’s story.

Similarly, Shoshana Institute recognises that Christ’s story has already been told throughout the world. We recognise the great work of many saints who have faithfully conveyed the work of Christ. We note that many convey Christ’s story experientially as they have not yet heard the story told systematically. Like Luke, we want to provide certainty to the teachings about Jesus in particular, and the Christian faith in general.

Shoshana Institute aims to encourage the faith already taught. We do this by empowering congregational leaders with the belief that the Holy Bible is God’s written revelation to humanity and the final authority on all matters of faith and practice.

There are many schools available for scripture studies, however, very few uphold the doctrine of preservation. We believe God’s word is available today for study and not locked behind ancient languages. We also believe that God’s word has been preserved as a Book, not just a collection of books.

Shoshana Institute exists to faithfully hand down to the next generation this unique application of bibliology (the study of the Bible). We do this in the spirit of 2 Timothy 2:2, “And the things that thou has heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”
